There is a dulling that happens when being ignored stops surprising you and starts feeling ordinary.
I didn’t feel dismissed outright.
I felt neutralized.
As if my emotional range had been reduced to whatever was necessary to keep functioning.
When reaction slowly disappears
Being ignored doesn’t provoke a response forever.
Eventually, it removes the reason to respond at all.
Effort continues, but feeling doesn’t follow.
I wasn’t upset anymore. I was flat.
It felt like the emotional extension of when I stopped wondering whether I was visible.
The quiet erosion of feeling
Without response, there’s nothing to react against.
No affirmation. No correction. No friction.
Emotion loses its edges.
This echoed the same internal dullness I’d felt when emotional presence had already thinned.
How flatness becomes protective
Flatness isn’t apathy.
It’s conservation.
I didn’t stop caring. I stopped activating feelings that had nowhere to land.
The realization connected back to the earlier awareness that invisibility had already reshaped how I engaged.
I stayed functional.
The flatness came from having nothing to respond to.
Being ignored didn’t overwhelm me—it flattened me.
