The Shift I Told Myself Was Normal

The change was subtle enough to justify, and familiar enough to dismiss.

I noticed the shift, but I didn’t linger on it.

It showed up as a slight emotional flattening — less reaction, less engagement, less internal commentary.

Nothing disappeared entirely. It just softened.

So I told myself it was normal.

When explanation replaces curiosity

The moment something changes, the mind looks for a story.

And the easiest story is the one that requires no adjustment.

This is just how it goes after a while.

I stopped asking what the shift meant and started narrating it as maturity, stability, realism.

That explanation felt responsible — even reassuring.

The comfort of normalization

Calling something normal quiets the need to examine it.

It gives you permission to move on without looking closer.

This was easier than sitting with the same signals that had already appeared when excitement quietly faded and when small resistance went unnoticed.

Normal became a way to keep going.

Why early shifts rarely get named

We’re taught to expect change — to adapt without question.

So when something internal shifts without obvious damage, it doesn’t feel important enough to stop for.

If nothing is broken, why look closer?

This is how early cracks stay hidden — not through denial, but through reasonable explanations.

The quiet cost of self-reassurance

What gets lost isn’t productivity — it’s awareness.

You learn to smooth over internal differences instead of listening to them.
